The R+F training program
R+F offers state-recognized CHE courses in Film, Photography, Art, Fashion Design and Visual Design leading to a College of Higher Education (CHE) degree. The offer also includes the two specialist classes in photography and graphics with a Federal VET Diploma apprenticeship and the Preliminary Design Course and Foundation Year (preparatory course). The wide range of design courses for adults and the youth courses for 11 to 16-year-olds are open to all interested parties.
Youth courses for 11- to 16-year-olds
The vacation and monthly courses take place in an environment in which the exploration of art and design is a matter of course.The young people experience an atmosphere in which interests and talents in the visual arts become professions. The workplaces are the studios of the F+F pupils and students. Experienced personalities from the fields of design and art encourage and support the participants in the realization of their ideas.
Preliminary course
The preliminary design course is a one-year full-time course that introduces students to the basics of design. The focus is on raising awareness of artistic and creative activities and methods, career choice and targeted preparation for a transition to further education - be it a vocational apprenticeship, a specialist class, a course of study at a College of Higher Education or a University of Applied Sciences. The preliminary course is recognized by the swiss design schools, the directors' conference of Swiss design schools.
Foundation Year (preparatory course)
The Foundation Year serves as a preparatory course and prepares you specifically for continuing education and training / tertiary level studies. You will explore creative processes and working methods, acquire subject-specific skills and lay a solid foundation in design. At the same time, you will receive orientation on further study content, training locations and possible professional fields. At the end of the one-year training program, the focus is on creating your personal portfolio. With mentored support, you will be optimally prepared for the admission procedures for further courses of study at a University of Applied Sciences or College of Higher Education (e.g. for the Film, Photography, Art, Fashion Design and Visual Design courses at R+F) in Switzerland or abroad.
Specialist classes: Photography Federal VET Diploma/BM and Graphics Federal VET Diploma/BM
The state-recognized, four-year photography Federal VET Diploma/BM and graphics Federal VET Diploma/BM specialist classes can be completed as basic vocational training after completing a preliminary design course. The specialist classes are full-time training at upper-secondary level and represent an alternative to the dual system with an apprenticeship and vocational school. The specialist classes are completed with the Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET Diploma). It is possible to attend the Zurich Vocational Baccalaureate School (BMS) during the apprenticeship.
CHE degree programs
The full-time courses in the specializations of art, photography, fashion design and visual design last six semesters, while the part-time course in film lasts eight semesters. All courses are state-recognized and students are therefore eligible for scholarships in their canton of origin.
Film CHE degree program, part-time
The part-time film course provides students with all the skills they need to produce films and videos. During the eight-semester course, students acquire the technical know-how for directing, camera, lighting and sound technology. They learn the rules of screenwriting and acting, edit their own films and develop inspiring marketing concepts. These are part of the tools they acquire on the course to be able to survive in the film industry.
Photography CHE degree program
The three-year photography course is the only full-time course at College of Higher Education level in German-speaking Switzerland. Students on the course deal with both content-related and creative processes. Highly qualified lecturers encourage individual and project-based work as well as exciting collaborations. In this way, they contribute to a contemporary understanding of images. The strength of this course lies in its practical relevance, which leads to the continuous formation of professional networks. Diverse discourses become possible. Art CHE degree course The Art CHE degree course helps artists to independently realize projects that speak their own artistic language. And during their studies, students learn how the resulting distinctive works can be appropriately communicated within the art system
Fashion Design CHE degree program
The Fashion Design CHE degree program provides students with a solid foundation in craftsmanship, technology and design for their future careers as fashion designers. The practice-oriented training promotes both conceptual thinking and creative work. Students acquire the skills to identify trends and style tendencies at an early stage and to develop original, independent designs. The latest developments in fashion, business and society are always incorporated into the course - no obstacle to studying cultural and historical contexts.Visual Design CHE degree program In the Visual Design CHE degree program, students acquire all the skills they need to develop their own graphic solutions. They learn all the steps required to complete graphic design assignments - from conception, planning and design to realization. The confrontation with real assignments allows students to practice dealing with the demands of clients and to represent their work with confidence.
Continuing education, further training in fashion design for Federal VET Diploma clothing designers
The continuing education, further training is completed over the course of one year in five consecutive modules. Successful completion of this job-oriented continuing education, further training offers clothing designers with a Federal VET Diploma qualification the opportunity to enter directly into the 3rd semester of the CHE Fashion Design course.
Design courses
With its continuing education courses, R+F makes its pool of knowledge accessible to all interested parties. The practical courses in the fields of art, design and art theory start four times a year. This is ideal for working people in particular, as the courses take place in the evenings and the day courses on Fridays or Saturdays. The one-week winter and summer studios take place in June, July and February - an ideal format for a concentrated, in-depth immersion.
