University of BernInstitute for Marketing and Corporate Management
The Entrepreneurship Center of the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of Bern promotes and encourages entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneurship Center (EC) serves as a dialog platform for students, entrepreneurs and the public.
Target groupThe further education program is aimed at people who hold a managerial position and want to take an entrepreneurial approach. Entrepreneurs who wish to reorient themselves professionally or become self-employed, as well as people who are already self-employed.
People who want to implement entrepreneurial initiatives and innovative projects in SMEs or large companies, either alone or as part of a team, as well as potential successors to family businesses.
Goals
The transfer of up-to-date, theoretical knowledge, simultaneous training in practical application and our Bern network of successful entrepreneurs. This gives participants a personal competitive advantage.
Participants learn to use their resources and their network creatively to generate new ideas. During business modeling, they test whether their idea can effectively generate profit. The comprehensive assessment of the business idea includes the analysis of external as well as business and legal factors. Their implementation tools consist of solid project management and assistance with the pressing question of how to make decisions in the face of uncertainty, coupled with strategic concepts for achieving their vision.
For three months, participants immerse themselves in the world of entrepreneurship.
ContentsIn decision-making situations, participants learn to rely not only on theories and individual personal experiences, but also on empirically based data. This data must be systematically collected in their own company and the market environment. For this reason, the study program teaches the market research, self-management and leadership skills relevant to entrepreneurship. The core areas of applied management knowledge are relevant for both start-ups and established companies: Decision-making, evaluating new ideas and processes, dealing with low performance, managing employees, conflict resolution and external communication.
