The ZHAW is one of Switzerland's leading Universities of Applied Sciences. It is active in teaching, research, continuing education, further training and services - practice-oriented and scientifically sound. The Department of Social Work is one of the eight departments of the ZHAW and is located in Zurich-West on the Toni-Areal campus. The four institutes cover the following thematic focuses: "Childhood, Youth and Family", "Delinquency and Crime Prevention", "Community Development and Migration", "Social Gerontology", "Social Law", "Supervision, Coaching and Mediation", "Psychosocial Counseling" and "Social Management".
In terms of training and continuing education, further training is based on a close link between teaching and research as well as a high degree of topicality of the content. The training includes a generalist course in social work with individual profile development at Bachelor's and Master's level. The continuing education program strengthens specialists and managers in social work in their professional, methodological, social and personal skills.
