Building physicists - specialists in architecture and civil engineering

Do you have an undergraduate degree in architecture, civil engineering or geomatics and would like to specialize in a particular field? Are you looking for further education courses in this field and would like to find out more about their content? On Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch you can find a wide range of training courses quickly and directly - including the DAS Building Physics FH continuing education course.

This specialist area has become increasingly important in the construction industry, particularly over the last forty years. On the one hand because of the increasing number of apartment buildings (sound insulation), but also as a result of rising oil prices, construction defects in buildings from the 1950s, advanced building materials and the increasing need for comfort.

Well-trained building physicists specialize in the following areas of civil engineering and architecture:

  • Thermal insulation
  • Sound insulation / acoustics
  • Moisture
  • Daylight
  • Fire protection
  • Climate

It is often mistakenly assumed that structural analysis is also part of building physics, but this belongs to the field of structural analysis.

For further information, visit Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch and contact universities of applied sciences that offer continuing education in this field online, free of charge and without obligation!

Questions and answers

The DAS in Building Physics is a part-time continuing education, further training course that allows you to continue working four days a week. As the compulsory CAS only lasts 12 days (plus a 4-day introductory week), and the supplementary modules take about the same amount of time (CAS Acoustics 4 weeks longer), the individual CAS courses last between 4 and 5 months. Depending on your motivation and available time (a total of around 900 attendance and learning hours), you can complete the Diploma of Advanced Studies DAS in Building Physics within one year or over a maximum period of three years.
Building physicists deal with the physical conditions of buildings and structures, including residential and office buildings, bridges, airports, roads, industrial plants and many other buildings. Their expertise in building physics and thermohygrometry helps you to prevent damage to building materials and structures, to incorporate building and living comfort as well as energy efficiency into planning and to draw up renovation concepts.
The continuing education, further training to become a building physicist is actually designed primarily for architects, building technicians, civil engineers and other professionals working in construction planning who have a university degree and several years of professional experience and want to specialize specifically. However, other interested parties with equivalent education, continuing education, further training and many years of professional experience are also always admitted to the diploma program. Please contact the relevant Universities directly.
A DAS in Building Physics consists of a compulsory basic module and two freely selectable modules that allow you to specialize in areas such as acoustics, lighting design, fire protection or timber construction. The mandatory CAS covers the following topics, among others:
  • Moisture transport (liquid, gaseous)
  • Moisture damage
  • Thermodynamic simulation
  • ClimaDesign
  • Thermal insulation (energy technology, thermal energy)
  • Thermohygric
  • Air quality
  • Building acoustics
  • Air tightness, building thermography
