Training as a retail specialist - what are the disadvantages?
The retail trade specialist course is aimed at anyone who works in the retail trade, has some professional experience and possibly initial management experience (as a vocational trainer or department manager) and would like to take on even more responsibility. The federal certificate enables promotion to a higher position in the store or later the management of your own branch. This continuing education, further training is the right choice for anyone pursuing these goals.
The main disadvantages of retail specialist training are:
- Training as a retail specialist requires a willingness to take on more responsibility and to be a competent point of contact for superiors and employees.
- In addition to personnel management and leadership, during your retail specialist training you will also deal with topics such as the company and its environment, finance and accounting, procurement and logistics as well as sales and marketing. This range of subjects requires a wide range of interests and corresponding aptitude.
- The lessons involve a lot of individual, partner and group work and require active participation in class. However, self-organized learning time to process the learning material (preparation and follow-up) is just as important. Both take up a lot of time in addition to the daily work, which can lead to a double burden.
- The nervous strain of the annual Federal Professional Examinations, which take place every two years at the latest, is generally high. Anyone who suffers from test anxiety is at a disadvantage here. However, during the retail specialist training course, you will be prepared for this - for example through regular learning assessments. There is also a case study that can be prepared and group work.
- Federal professional qualifications are not generally recognized abroad. Anyone wishing to work abroad must obtain official proof of this professional qualification from the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation SERI.
The retail specialist apprenticeship provides greater job security, self-confidence and self-esteem. In addition, there are better earning and career opportunities - also thanks to the new further training opportunities following the Federal Professional Examination.
