Japanese: language courses for all levels

Are you planning a vacation in Japan? Or do you have business dealings with Japanese speakers? Learn this language! Knowing the local language will open many doors for you in the future.

Japanese is spoken by around 127 million people. It is still unclear where the language originated. It is not related to Chinese, but a large part of the Japanese vocabulary comes from China. The characters (kanji) also come from China. From these, a phonetic or syllabic script has also developed in Japan. Today, a unique hybrid form of the original Chinese script and phonetic script (kanji kana majiribun) is used.

If you are interested in this complex language with its beautiful characters, you can find more information and schools offering Japanese courses on the large education portal www.ausbildung-weiterbildung.ch.

Questions and answers

Some language schools that organize language trips to Japan offer a comprehensive range of leisure activities so that you can take part in at least one organized activity every day. This includes, for example, city tours, movie nights or excursions. Other Japanese schools offer special activities once or twice a week, such as calligraphy, origami, a visit to a sumo fight, excursions, and so on. If you are only in the country for one or two weeks and want to do as much as possible, you can usually book special packages that include leisure courses or day trips. Please ask whether these offers can also be booked on site or whether they have to be reserved here.
If you want to learn Japanese quickly, for example for a vacation or a business meeting, you have the opportunity to acquire the first basic knowledge in a compact course. Such a compact course usually has a smaller number of lessons than a conventional language course and lasts about 2 weeks with about 3 lessons per day. Longer periods are also possible, as the duration and scope of such a compact seminar can vary greatly from language school to language school.

Some language schools offer fixed dates on which prospective students can gain an insight into the Japanese language and take part in a trial lesson free of charge. Simply ask the schools in question when these dates are and, if you don't have time on that day, whether you could alternatively try out another Japanese course. This is because people like to get an overview of how a language course works and want to find out whether this language is actually suitable for them. It doesn't cost anything to ask and you can simply use our contact form.

In a Japanese course for beginners, you will first familiarize yourself with the spoken language, its sound and pronunciation. You will learn everyday expressions and simple phrases, how to introduce yourself and answer questions about yourself, such as where you live, what you do for a living and what your family is like. You will also learn to ask such personal questions to others and to understand the answers when someone speaks to you slowly and clearly. In addition to listening and speaking comprehension, you will also be introduced to Japanese characters and gain an insight into the country's culture. Depending on the language school, you will also be taught other topics such as writing short messages, for example an email, or filling out forms, for example in a hotel. Simply enquire with the individual language schools about the detailed learning objectives and content of a Japanese language course using our contact form.
Unlike Italian or French, Japanese is not an Indo-European language and therefore has no connection to our German or Swiss-German mother tongue. It can therefore be said that this foreign language is not all that easy to learn, partly because it has a very complex writing system, which is a mixture of different syllabic scripts and Chinese characters. Nevertheless, it is quite possible for motivated language learners to quickly achieve initial success in learning Japanese, especially with a professional and native-speaking teacher.
