As training in long-term care is not yet federally regulated, each school sets its own admission requirements. However, in order to specialize, you usually need to have a solid basic education and professional experience. For a certificate course, for example, a nursing assistant certificate or a nursing assistant certificate may be sufficient. Please clarify this with the individual educational institutions.

There are various training courses in long-term care and long-term nursing in Switzerland, which have different durations.

  • Federal Professional Examination to become a specialist in long-term care and support:Here, a duration of 1 - 1.5 years must be expected. The preparatory courses for the FPE are completed on a part-time basis.
  • Specialist courses leading to a "school certificate / diploma (cert.)":These often only last a few days.
  • Study in the field of nursing:A Bachelor's degree course at a University of Applied Sciences (full-time) is expected to take 3 years.
  • Postgraduate courses at Universities:Extra-occupational continuing education courses such as CAS often last 1 - 2 semesters, an MAS takes around 2 to 3 years.
