Life coach training: What are the main disadvantages?

After the life coach training, you will be able to support and advise individuals or teams with work-related coaching in a sustainable way. Fundamental aspects of human existence such as questions about happiness, responsibility, meaning, spirituality, hope, values, dealing with guilt, etc. are consciously taken into account instead of being left unused.

The main disadvantages of life coach training are

  1. The degree awarded after the life coach training is not a federal diploma, but a certificate or diploma issued by the school. Some of the qualifications are recognized by coaching associations such as the Swiss Professional Association for Coaching, Organizational Consulting and Supervision (bso) or the International Coach Federation (ICF).
  2. As the qualifications at certificate level are not federally regulated, the learning content can differ from school to school. However, there are regulations for association qualifications such as bso or ICF. As this is a continuing education profession, a completed apprenticeship or a university degree as well as professional and management experience are required.
  3. The time required for preparation and follow-up work, self-study, practice, learning support and examinations must be planned over three to four years in the private and professional environment.
  4. Even after completing the life coach training, the learning does not stop: If you want to work as a qualified life coach on your own or in a counseling center, you should ideally complete the advanced professional examination for counselors in the psychosocial field with a federal diploma. Incidentally, only those who complete the entire training including the HFP and pass the federal examination can benefit from federal subsidies.

Many life coaches work in education or social services, but some also work in management and human resources. It is possible to work part-time or full-time.
