In many cases, patients come to therapists hoping that the chosen method will alleviate their symptoms. Whether it's neck tension or a regular pulling sensation in the thigh muscles, eating disorders, gastrointestinal problems, severe menstrual cramps or stabbing headaches, the list could go on and on. However, it is all too rarely only the physical impairments that need to be treated; all too often social and psychological factors play a role that should not be underestimated, exacerbating the clinical picture or even causing it in the first place.

Psychosomatics starts at this level and requires well-being on a physical, psychological and social level in order to maintain or restore a person's holistic health. As psychosomatic complaints are therefore not exclusively determined by one factor, it does not make sense for a promising treatment of the patient to only remedy the effects of the illness, i.e. possibly a deep-seated pain in the upper back, but also the mental state  and the patient's existing social environment in order to find possible causes for these recurring complaints.
