Language courses in Malta: learn English on a vacation island

Learn English on your vacation island? Yes, it's possible! Enquire about language travel to Malta and experience exciting language vacations on the English island in the Mediterranean! English skills are increasingly in demand these days. Whether on vacation or at work, you are confronted with the English language everywhere. Even commercials or headlines contain English words that you simply have to understand. Would you like to keep up with this trend and learn English? That's a good decision. But it's even better if you learn this popular language in a wonderful atmosphere: On the vacation island of Malta.

Language study trips to Malta are popular and not without reason: the breathtaking scenery can inspire tourists. Learn English in the morning and enjoy the nature and beaches of Malta in the afternoon. During your free time, you can practise the English you have learned straight away. Constantly using the language will help you to communicate and ensure that you permanently store the English in your long-term memory. On the Swiss education portal you will find numerous providers with tempting offers for language travel to Malta. Enquire today and make your dreams come true!

To ensure that you actually find the language school for your language study trip to Malta that meets your needs, you need to make a few clarifications beforehand. First of all, find out about the schools that offer exactly what you are most interested in. Once you have made an initial pre-selection, remember that you should check a few criteria. Is the number of lessons for your chosen language course the same everywhere? And what about the duration of the English course lessons? What is the group size of the individual courses and is there a minimum number of participants?

Also find out whether there is an age limit and whether there are any special offers for young people, families or senior citizens. If possible, the language school you choose should have many years of experience and well-trained and experienced teachers. The infrastructure of the school is of course also important for your language study trip to Malta, as are the transport connections to your accommodation. Ask about the individual accommodation options. Living with a host family is not desirable for everyone, but for others it is an absolute requirement. The distance to and from school should also be a selection criterion, as this can easily add up to half an hour or more in a large city. What meals are included in the price? And what does it actually consist of? Are there any additional costs such as enrolment fees for the English course and costs for transfers, materials and deposits?

What does the nightlife offer you and what about the cultural and sporting leisure program during your language study trip to Malta? Are there any programs organized by the school for school-free times, such as afternoons and weekends? Always clarify this in advance and read up on this topic in the guide "How to choose the right education provider" (see navigation point "Education help" above).

Questions and answers

For youth language trips, there is usually no choice regarding the length of the language course. The same number of lessons per week applies to all language students, but divided into different levels. Occasionally, however, there are language schools where young language students can also study more intensively and have one or two additional language lessons in the afternoon. However, this is not the norm.

For language study trips in Malta for adults, however, there is usually a large selection of language courses to choose from. So-called standard courses are almost always offered, which are particularly suitable for all those who like to have enough time to enjoy their free time in addition to the course. These language courses usually take place in the morning and allow participants to spend the afternoon as they wish or take part in the activities on offer. Intensive courses are particularly suitable for people who want to learn as much as possible in a short space of time and are prepared to study English for up to six lessons a day. The number of lessons per week varies depending on the school for all language courses, not just intensive courses, so you should definitely keep this in mind.

Business English courses are also extremely popular, as are preparation courses for diploma examinations such as IELTS or other Cambridge certificates such as the FCE (First Certificate in English). Private lessons and combination courses are also frequently offered by language schools, which you can book during your language travel to Malta. Depending on the school, combination courses can consist of individual lessons and mini-groups, for example, or a combination of a language course and a special leisure activity, such as surfing, in which you are taught daily.

When traveling to Malta, you should always check the following points with the individual language schools in order to make a good comparison and find the right offer for your English language course:
  • What types of courses are there?
  • What experience, training and continuing education, further training do the teachers have?
  • How long has this language school existed?
  • What is the maximum number of participants?
  • What is the minimum age?
  • How long does a lesson last?
  • How many lessons are there per week?
  • Are there diploma courses?
  • How big is the school?
  • What infrastructure and facilities does the school have to offer?
  • What services are included in the price?
  • Is there an airport transfer?
  • Where exactly is the school located?
  • How far is it from the beach, the village and other attractions?
  • What accommodation is available?
  • How far is the accommodation from the school?
  • Are there good transport connections?
  • What catering is available?
  • What leisure activities does the school organize?
  • What does the town and the area around the school have to offer me?
For youth language trips to Malta, there are usually host family and student residence options in which the language students stay overnight. Both options offer many advantages, but accommodation with a host family is the most conducive to learning English. The young people live with local families and take part in their everyday lives. Accommodation with a host family is certainly the better choice, especially for children who feel unsafe around too many people and enjoy being in a family environment. Student residences are ideal for communicative young people who like to interact with others and place less value on peace and privacy. A daily entertainment program such as games and parties are not uncommon, so that free time outside the classroom can be an exciting time for everyone involved.

For language trips to Malta, which are primarily aimed at adults, host families and student residences are also available. These are similar to student residences, but have fewer organized leisure activities and are particularly suitable for self-catering students. Often, at least breakfast is offered in the cafeteria of the accommodation, but lunch and dinner must be organized by the students themselves. In shared flats, language students of all ages are even more dependent on self-organization, as they are only provided with a room (single or double room) and shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. Furthermore, hotels and apartments can also be booked for language stays in Malta, which are particularly suitable for people who would like to escape the hustle and bustle from time to time and need their own private space.

Language travel to Malta is suitable for almost all age groups and is therefore also ideal for school pupils and teenagers. Youth language trips are often offered for pupils aged 12 and over and offer language programs specially developed for this target group. These language vacations are mainly offered during the school vacations and usually include a maximum of 20 lessons per week. These are spread over 5 days, from Monday to Friday, which means a learning workload of 4 lessons per day. In addition, there is homework, which is usually completed after lunchtime before the children and young people turn to organized and supervised leisure activities. These can include beach volleyball or surfing, rowing boats and water skiing. At the weekends, excursions are undertaken, for example by speedboat to the Blue Lagoon or to UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The leisure program is strongly geared towards the age of the young people taking part in language trips to Malta and is supervised at all times by experienced teachers and group leaders. As all activities are communicated in English, students have the opportunity to improve their language skills not only during their English lessons, but also in every minute of their free time, which they spend with language students of very different nationalities.
There are some types of language courses where the duration is limited, such as preparatory courses or business courses. All other language courses in Malta can often be booked for as little as one week and can be booked for up to 48 weeks or longer. If you are planning a longer language study trip, a long-term language course lasting six to nine months is also an option, although not all language schools offer these and they have fixed start dates. In addition, a year of study or an internship at some English language schools is also possible during a language study trip to Malta. You can also find more detailed information on the individual language diplomas and course types in the guide "Education and continuing, further training in languages" (see navigation point "Education help" above).
