After passing the examinations to become an insurance intermediary, you will receive a certificate from the VBV, the Vocational Training Association of the Insurance Industry. This qualification entitles you to be entered in the register of independent intermediaries at FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, which is necessary in order to be allowed to carry out an independent insurance comparison (Art. 43, para. 1 ISA).

A useful training course to be able to carry out an independent insurance comparison is, for example, the VBV Insurance Broker Certificate course. After completing the course, you will be able to show and sell insurance products that are individually and seriously tailored to the customer.

If you hold the Insurance Intermediary VBV certificate, it is possible to apply for the European eficert (European Insurance Intermediary Ell) certificate, which allows you to carry out insurance comparisons throughout Europe.

In order to be able to carry out an independent insurance comparison as an insurance intermediary, in addition to the VBV certificate, you also need an entry in the register of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA. This registration is necessary for an independent intermediary, but requires that, in addition to the professional qualifications acquired through the VBV certificate or equivalent training, he or she must not have a criminal record that is incompatible with working as an intermediary and must not be in possession of any certificates of indebtedness. Professional liability insurance with cover of at least CHF 2 million or comparable financial security must also be in place.
