Do I already have to work for an insurance company to train as an insurance broker?
To complete the VBV insurance broker course, you do not necessarily need experience in insurance brokerage or in another area of the insurance industry. The course is also suitable for people who want to acquire special knowledge in order to be able to work in insurance brokerage and insurance consulting in the future. In addition to newcomers to the industry, the seminar is also recommended for brokers already working in the insurance industry or sales representatives who want to obtain a recognized certificate.
I am already working in insurance brokerage, but would like to acquire the VBV certificate. Do I still have to attend the entire course?
For people who have several years of experience in insurance brokerage and have therefore already learned and put into practice a large part of the knowledge taught in a course, the schools offer special "professional" courses that start with an entrance examination/assessment test and, if passed, lead to the certificate examination in just seven course days.
How is the examination for the Certificate in Insurance Brokerage VBV structured?
The final examination of the Insurance Broker VBV course is divided into a written and an oral examination. The written examination takes place twice a year in examination centers and covers knowledge of the insurance industry, social and personal insurance as well as liability insurance, property insurance and other asset insurance for businesses and private households, as well as legal knowledge. In the oral examination for the insurance brokerage certificate, candidates can choose between the topics "Small businesses" and "Private households: Self-employed persons, families, individuals" and have to go through an advisory and sales situation in a fictitious customer meeting.
What topics does continuing education, further training in insurance brokerage cover?
The continuing education, further training in insurance mediation is modular and comprises a total of seven modules. These are: Insurance liability, social insurance, personal insurance, customer advice, asset insurance, property insurance, as well as legal knowledge with a focus on supervisory law, Swiss Code of Obligations, insurance law and brokerage law.
How long does continuing education, further training take?
Depending on the provider where you start your insurance brokerage course, the duration of the continuing education, further training can vary, but is usually around five months with around 20 days of attendance.
