Head chef (formerly cook in communal catering): A new challenge
As a chef who has completed an apprenticeship, you have rarely already found your dream job. If you have at least three years of professional experience behind you and have successfully completed the apprenticeship course, then the next challenge of further training may be waiting for you: as a cook in communal catering!
After your training, you will cook in an institution, care home or other similar facility, for example. You will manage the entire kitchen team and coordinate everything from purchasing and cooking to invoicing and accounting activities. The training lasts 37 days, i.e. 6 times 5 days plus 7 days of practical preparation. You will then have a qualification on the professional examination basis. After this qualification you can also work as a hospital chef. Your tasks are very varied and the cook in communal catering is particularly involved in personnel management. You usually leave the practical cooking to your employees and support and motivate them in their work!
