What do agile coaches do? What does your job as an agile coach look like?

"Agile coaches are specialized coaches. In principle, coaches accompany people (known as coachees) in various life situations on their journey. They advise and support them on their way to achieving certain goals or solving problems. In agile coaching, such coachees are companies. Agile coaches work together with the management and/or teams as required. They accompany the restructuring or optimization of internal processes and thinking traditions along agile values and principles.

In the digital age, this is of central importance for companies in order to be able to react quickly to new market requirements and thus remain competitive.

Agile coaches use agile methods such as Scrum. To ensure optimal knowledge transfer, they take on different roles in their work: Coach, trainer, mentor and consultant.

Agile Coach vs. Scrum Master

Agile coaches and scrum masters are often compared or mentioned in the same breath. However, there are significant differences between the two:

• Agile coaches coach companies and teams, often as outsiders, using agile frameworks and methods, one of which is Scrum. Agile coaches are often assigned to several teams or are focused on the entire company and support them from a kind of external perspective.
• Scrum Master is a clearly defined role/function within the Scrum method. The Scrum Master has certain tasks within the agile framework (other roles are e.g. Product Owner). Among other things, he is responsible for ensuring that the Scrum rules are adhered to and that the team can therefore perform optimally.
