Training at a College of Higher Education to become a federally certified biomedical analyst CHE usually takes three years full-time. Internships are also completed during the training, where a salary is paid to trainees.

Biomedical analysts CHE are sought-after specialists on the job market and are employed in private and hospital laboratories, research institutions, blood donation centers and industry.

During the Biomedical Analyst (CHE) training program, great importance is placed not only on teaching theoretical skills but also on expanding practical professional skills. Students therefore take part in work placements in at least two specialist areas. They can choose from microbiology, histology and cytology, haematology and haemostaseology, clinical chemistry and immunology, as well as immunohaematology and transfusion medicine.

A survey conducted by Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch among those interested in continuing education as a biomedical analyst HF reveals the reasons for this interest:

  • 80% want to check whether biomedical analysis training meets their needs.
  • 8 % have developed an interest in further training as it is frequently mentioned in job advertisements.
  • 12 % are interested in the Biomedical Analyst HF course on the basis of a recommendation.

Persons who meet the following criteria are admitted to the Biomedical Analyst CHE program:

  • Completion of at least three years of basic training with Federal VET Diploma, preferably as a laboratory technician Federal VET Diploma specializing in biology or in the health sector, or equivalent training

or

  • Vocational, technical or Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification

or

  • Technical college certificate

and

  • Very good knowledge of physics, biology, mathematics and chemistry
  • Passing an aptitude test, entrance examination or interview (depending on the training provider)
