Geomaticians deal with precise information about spaces, their nature, use and characteristics. The aim is to make spaces or demarcated areas efficiently usable. This information is necessary to ensure that this can be achieved and that the consequences of further use can be assessed. The work of a geomatics technician includes recording spatial information correctly and to a high standard, evaluating it and processing it in a meaningful way so that it can be used appropriately. Graphics, statistics or entire project reports serve as an aid here.

If you have already completed vocational training as a geomatics technician and have also completed the vocational baccalaureate, you meet the requirements and can start the Bachelor's degree course in geomatics at selected universities of applied sciences. You will be trained as an expert engineer and will be able to carry out complex activities in connection with spatial surveying and the processing of geoinformation. You will have a perfect command of the mathematical and scientific basics. You will skillfully apply your know-how to the challenging task of collecting and processing spatial information. Questions and answers

There are various ways to train as a geomatics technician. On the one hand, with an apprenticeship with Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training) and possible continuing education to become a Geomatics Technician with Federal Diploma of Higher Education, on the other hand with a Bachelor's degree in Geomatics after an apprenticeship with Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or a Baccalaureate followed by a twelve-month work-related internship.

For the Bachelor's degree program in Geomatics, an apprenticeship with a Federal Vocational Baccalaureate as a cartographer, geomatics technician, structural draftsman, mediamatician, landscape draftsman, interior draftsman, computer scientist, spatial planning draftsman or architectural draftsman is expected. A Baccalaureate with at least one year's work experience in geomatics is also possible as an admission requirement.

A Bachelor's degree course in Geomatics is calculated to have a total workload of around 5400 hours. This is spread over three years of full-time study and includes teaching, preparation and follow-up work, self-study, exam preparation and the Bachelor's thesis. Between 24 and 30 ECTS credits are awarded per semester, and 36 ECTS credits are awarded in the final semester for the Bachelor's thesis. You can roughly expect a weekly workload of around 30 hours for the Bachelor's degree course in Geomatics, although the individual workload can of course vary greatly.

There are a total of 30 places available for the Bachelor's degree course in Geomatics UAS, which are allocated according to the order in which applications are received.

After completing a Bachelor's degree in Geomatics, motivated geomatics technicians at UAS have the opportunity to enrol on a Master's degree course in Geoinformation Technology if they have a good to very good degree. This continuing education, further training is a Master of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Geomatics, which is offered jointly by the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH), the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), the University of Applied Sciences Eastern Switzerland (FHO), the Scouola universitaria professionale delle Svizzera italiana (SUPSI), the Universities of Lucerne, the Haute Ecole Spécialisée de Suisse occidentale (HES-SO) and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).
