Office Diploma / Business Diploma: What are the disadvantages of a business school?

Graduates of a business school with an office management diploma receive and look after customers and suppliers, operate the switchboard and process incoming mail including e-mails. Other tasks include writing letters and memos according to specifications, processing master data, managing the registry and taking on certain accounting tasks. Holders of the commercial diploma take on more demanding commercial work in the office, handle correspondence independently, specialize in certain activities and plan their tasks independently.

The most important disadvantages of the commercial school training for the office diploma / commercial diploma are:

  1. The commercial school qualification is not federally recognized. However, the diplomas are organized by associations and federations (Association of Swiss Commercial Schools / Association of Commercial Further Education Centres). Thanks to the guaranteed quality of training, the diplomas are well recognized throughout the Swiss economy.
  2. As business school usually takes place alongside work, the time budget must be well managed. There is usually not enough free time during this time.
  3. The examination pressure for the partial examinations and the final diploma examination is high. However, you are specifically prepared for this - usually with prior tests.
  4. Even after graduating from business school, the learning doesn't stop: If you want to specialize in a particular activity in the commercial sector, you usually have to take a professional examination for the respective field of activity.

Graduates of the commercial school have basic commercial and business knowledge. They are ideally prepared for jobs involving office work on the computer and for commercial tasks. Just as importantly, the commercial or office diploma lays the foundation for further training such as professional examinations, etc.
