Swiss certified import manager (new title: foreign trade manager)

As a foreign trade manager, you have the professional competence for a higher management position within the import industry. You will be able to solve marketing, financing, organizational and legal problems in the import sector.

Foreign trade specialists (former job title: import manager) report directly to the management and assist the purchasing department in importing goods from abroad. They are responsible for the correct and cost-effective import of goods from all over the world, which requires a wide range of specialist knowledge. The position of Head of Import requires knowledge of business administration and corporate management as well as consumer marketing, capital goods and procurement marketing. In addition, knowledge of the current organizational methods of import transactions and smooth processing is required. An import manager knows how to integrate this into the company management.

The structures, problems and successes of international economic integration, the peculiarities of Eastern and Third World countries, foreign exchange management, payment transactions, financing options and insurance issues are no foreign words. An import manager also examines risks and the structure of a specific trade deal. Their experience of modern logistics and material flow systems is of great importance.

The problems, wishes and ideas of the negotiating partners must be familiar in the Import management position so that business can be conducted satisfactorily for all parties. The ability to negotiate competently and to speak several languages are also important requirements in order to be able to have a say in the international market.

You can find out where you can start such training on the large education portal Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch.

The examination regulations for the diploma in foreign trade management (AFPE), formerly export manager / import manager AFPE, do not explicitly stipulate that you must have completed certain modules and be able to prove that you have completed a preparatory course in order to register for the final examination. However, if you look at the subject areas and their variety, which are tested orally and in writing in the final examination (clearly shown in the question "Which topics are covered in the continuing education, further training to become an import manager?"), you will realize that attending a preparatory course for the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) is almost essential in order to actually acquire the required knowledge in a professional manner.
