My name is Claudia Per. I am the school director at the IKT Institute for Complementary Therapy. I take care of organizing the school and keeping it running. It is very important to me that the students feel comfortable with us and have a good learning environment. Here at the IKT, in addition to training in complementary therapy, we also offer basic medical training as a course. These 150 hours of knowledge of conventional medicine are an important step in terms of basic training in conventional medicine on the way to becoming a complementary therapist.
First and foremost, we are actually addressing prospective complementary therapists from a wide variety of fields and life situations. Nevertheless, the Medical Basics course is also of interest to anyone else who would like to gain knowledge of medical basics. This could be because they are training in massage or want to return to physiotherapy after a long career break. People with a keen interest in the function of the body and its relationship to illness and health can also take part.
The admission requirements for the Medical Basics course are a minimum age of 18 years and an interest in conventional medicine. A certain openness to the basics of conventional medicine is required. Participants should also be able to follow the topic and the tasks - i.e. be able to cope with them.
The content of the medical basics course is the anatomy of the body, i.e. knowing how the body works and which organ is located where. This also includes the structure of the body with muscles and bones. It is also important to know about diseases, how to recognize them and how they relate to the whole body. Every part of our body - inside and out - is part of the learning content of the Medical Basics course.
The Medical Basics course for non-medical professionals lasts 150 hours. This corresponds to 20 course days at the IKT. We have spread these out over a whole year so that students can learn the basics of conventional medicine alongside their professional activities.
The cost of training to learn the basics of medicine is usually around 25 to 30 francs per lesson. In addition, the cost of teaching materials, around 100 francs, must also be factored in. This would mean total training costs of 3,850 to 4,600. This makes it easy to compare the costs of training in the basics of conventional medicine from individual providers.
The course is completed with a written exam with medical basics exam questions. This is done using multiple choice questions as well as detailed tasks and content questions. This tests the level of knowledge of all learning content across various modules. Half of the medical basics exam questions must be answered correctly in order to pass the exam.
If you pass the exam successfully, you will receive the Medical Basics Certificate. This can then be used for further training such as complementary therapist or for recognition by registration bodies.
