As a rule, prospective students are required to have completed at least three years of basic vocational training (EFZ), preferably as a care specialist EFZ, as a health specialist EFZ or as a medical practice assistant, or a technical, secondary school or vocational baccalaureate or an equivalent qualification. In addition, you must pass the aptitude test, which, depending on the higher technical college, may include an aptitude test, an aptitude internship, a dossier and an aptitude interview. The respective universities of applied sciences will inform you about the individual admission procedures.
How long does the MTRA training course for radiology specialists HF take?
MTRA training is a full-time course of study and lasts three years.
Is it also possible to train as a radiology specialist HF in French-speaking Switzerland?
Unlike in German-speaking Switzerland, MTRA training in French-speaking Switzerland does not take place at universities of applied sciences, but as a bachelor's degree course at a university of applied sciences.
Do internships also take place during the training to become a radiology specialist HF?
As MTRA training at higher technical colleges is very practice-oriented, internships and orientation weeks also take place. The extent to which these take place can vary from school to school.

After completing MTRA training at a higher technical college, graduates are awarded the protected title "dipl. Radiologiefachfrau HF" or "dipl. Radiologiefachmann HF".
What do I learn in an MTRA training course to become a radiology specialist HF?
During their MTRA training, radiology students acquire extensive knowledge and skills to be able to care for, treat and monitor sick, injured, disabled and healthy patients in hospitals and radiology institutes.
This includes radiation oncology, which includes radiotherapy and tumor radiation planning, where they treat patients over a period of several weeks according to the doctor's instructions. On the other hand, prospective radiology specialists HF acquire knowledge of diagnostic radiology, in which they are responsible for taking X-ray images of nerve tracts, blood vessels, bones and internal organs. In addition to conventional X-ray technology, they are also familiar with digital radiography, computer tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Furthermore, MTRA students are trained in nuclear medicine, in which they prepare radioactive substances in the laboratory and administer them to patients in very small quantities, using special measuring devices to visualize the position, size and function of the diseased organ. They also study basic scientific subjects such as anatomy, pathology, psychology, medical informatics, psychosociology, radiological physics and radiation protection.
