I'm studying Japanese Studies at the University of Zurich and it's recommended that you do an exchange year in Japan during your studies. However, as I don't want to go away for such a long time, I decided to do several shorter language stays. I hope this will help me to consolidate my language skills and get to know the culture better.
I was in Tokyo, Japan. I lived with a host family in the center of the big city.
I was in Japan for four weeks from the beginning of January 2017 to the beginning of February 2017. I chose this time because it fitted in well with my semester break and I wanted to make the most of it.
I really enjoyed my language study trip. After just a few weeks, I was told at school and by my host family that my language skills had improved a lot. I liked Tokyo myself, I was particularly impressed by the delicious food.
Thanks to the intensive training during my language study trip, I now feel much more confident when I speak Japanese. I even feel confident enough now that I could use my language skills in a job.
Language stays are a great experience. You have a lot of fun discovering new cities and countries, meet lots of new people and improve your language skills at the same time. What I can recommend is that you go to a host family, because this way you get to know the culture much better and you also have some native speakers at home who can help you with any questions.
I registered for this language study trip via ESL.
I am quite satisfied with ESL. I received good advice and got exactly what I was promised during my language study trip.
