Simone Martorana spent a language study trip in the USA and lived in Santa Monica, a district of Los Angeles, for three months. He tells us about his experiences and shares his unique adventures with us.
Going on a language study trip to the USA had been a dream of mine for a long time. I wanted to go to another country and live there for a longer period of time to gain new experiences. I had already heard from other language school graduates how unique this experience is. I was also at a stage in my life where I needed a change of environment. It gave me some distance from my life situation, which was not easy at the time. The decision turned out to be absolutely right and I am really glad that I did this language study trip to Los Angeles.
I was at a language school in California, in the USA, during my language study trip. The city of Santa Monica near Los Angeles was beautiful. During my language study trip to the USA, I grew very fond of the city of Santa Monica.
I was in the USA from March to June 2019 for a three-month language study trip.
The language study trip to Los Angeles was a really great experience. I got to know really great people from different countries and cultures. It's great to now have colleagues all over the world and to hear from them regularly even after my language study trip. Of course, this also opens up new opportunities for me to travel. I really enjoy traveling and can now meet or visit the people I got to know there. But I have also made new contacts with people in Switzerland with whom I now go out regularly. The shared experiences during the language study trip in the USA naturally brought us closer together. I also got to see a lot of the area around Santa Monica. We had half a day of school and the afternoon off. We spent this free time together at the beach, in an amusement park or at a basketball game. There was always something going on. I didn't just get to know Los Angeles from the tourist side. I met a lot of people who lived there, some of whom I'm still in contact with today. That's a really great thing. On long weekends, we visited other parts of California, such as San Diego, in a rental car. We visited San Francisco on a bus trip organized by the language school. We were also joined by other people from other US language schools with whom we could exchange ideas. This made the circle of local colleagues even larger. I was also able to fulfill another big dream by attending the Coachella Festival near Los Angeles. That was an unforgettable experience for me and my companions. On a personal level, the American mentality has shaped me and given me a more positive attitude towards life. This has changed my view of life forever. The experiences I had during my language study trip to the USA were truly the best of my life so far. I can only recommend a language study trip to the USA to anyone. Santa Monica is really beautiful - as you know it - palm trees, beach and beautiful weather.
Professionally, this was certainly learning English. I have gained more confidence in English. I now often watch TV in English and read English books so that I can retain what I have learned. I can of course integrate this skill into my CV. But it's not just the language skills that are valued by potential employers, but also the experience behind a language study trip to the USA. Because you travel alone to a foreign country, you are on your own and have to find your way around on your own. By doing your own shopping, cooking and housekeeping and adapting to a new environment, you gain independence. HR managers are also aware of this and value such life skills training just as much as the improved language skills.
If you have the desire to go on a language study trip to the USA, then I can only encourage you to do so. A certain amount of uncertainty when making the decision, when booking and until departure is completely normal. After all, you will be away from home for a long time. But I can guarantee that it will be a brilliant experience for those who are brave enough. I have only heard of positive experiences in connection with language stays - whether from all those I have met or from other people around me. Even if not everything is perfect or something doesn't go quite as planned, you make so many new friends and gain so many great experiences. I can really only recommend everyone to take this opportunity.
I booked my language study trip to the USA through Linguista. I was very satisfied with the language travel agency.
I was very satisfied with the language travel agency. I already knew them from my work in a travel agency and was able to book my language travel USA with a lovely colleague. I stayed in a small, central studio, which was clean and practical. Everything went as planned.
I hope I was able to give you a good insight into my English language study trip to the USA with this interview. I hope your language study trip will be as wonderful an experience for you as it was for me.
