The MarKom certification exam is not a federally recognized training program, but rather an examination established by the industry associations pr suisse (Swiss Public Relations Association—SPRV), Swiss Advertising (SW), Sales Switzerland (VS), Swiss Marketing (SMC), the Swiss Direct Marketing Association (SDV), the Swiss Society for Marketing (GfM), and FAIR (Fédération des Agents Indépendants et Réprésentants), and is valid for five years. Until the 2018 exam year, it was considered a prerequisite for admission to the five Federal Professional Examinations leading to a federal certificate in these fields. Even today, however, the MarKom certificate still enjoys a good reputation nationwide.

With the MarKom certificate you can perform the following tasks:

• Support superiors in the marketing department with all the work that arises
• Procuring and researching information and offers for marketing campaigns and creating sub-concepts in marketing planning
• Coordinate and monitor marketing activities
• Dealing with correspondence from the marketing department
• Meeting organization
• Collaboration on presentations

The MarKom certification exam was last administered on December 5, 2023, and has not been offered since then. These continuing education programs provide important foundational knowledge for a career in marketing and, depending on the provider, lead to a certificate or a professional association certification. Those who wish to specialize further afterward may, for example, consider pursuing further training to become a marketing specialist with a Federal Diploma of Higher Education.
