What is the learning content of a communication seminar?

The seminar concept offers a good opportunity to gain an initial insight into a topic/area or to delve deeper into specific aspects in a relaxed atmosphere in which, in addition to the theoretical basics, there is also plenty of space for discussion, exchange and practical exercises.

The subject matter of the communication seminar is not regulated by the federal government, but is compiled independently by the schools. There may therefore be differences from provider to provider.

In communication seminars aimed at a broad audience and designed to teach the basics of communication, the following topics are usually covered:

  • Communication models (e.g. sender-receiver model, four-ears model according to Schulz von Thun)
  • Verbal and non-verbal: facial expressions, gestures, tone of voice
  • Differences between direct and indirect communication
  • Active listening
  • Questioning techniques and interviewing (open and closed questions)
  • Giving feedback (self-perception and perception by others)
  • Rhetoric and presentation (confident appearance and convincing argumentation)
  • Communication psychology (influence of emotions on communication)

In communication seminars for advanced and professional users, various aspects are dealt with in greater depth (narrow focus on specific topics).
