Anyone who has a vocational baccalaureate certificate or a specialized baccalaureate certificate can take the Passerelle supplementary examination. A minimum average grade is not required.
Some providers of Passerelle preparation courses impose additional conditions, such as requiring a consultation to clarify aptitude or only recommending the course from a minimum grade in the vocational or technical baccalaureate.
The type of exam preparation is not specified. It can be self-study or in appropriate courses at public or private schools.

The Passerelle supplementary examination is held twice a year by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI in the three language regions.
The examination can be taken as a complete examination or in two partial examinations. The schools' in-house examinations must be taken as a comprehensive examination.
Students who do not pass can repeat the overall examination or part of the examination once. In subjects that were passed at the first attempt with a grade of at least 5, the examination does not have to be repeated.
