The Visual Merchandising course is aimed at people in the retail trade, marketing specialists, dressmakers, florists or shopfitters who want to learn about visual selling on the store floor as well as inspiring and emotional product presentation. Store merchandisers or visual merchandisers are the link between purchasing, marketing and sales. They organize, plan and coordinate all sales-promoting measures on the multi-purpose sales areas and shelves. Through visual merchandising, merchandisers optimize the presentation of goods and display them attractively. With window displays, promotional and seasonal areas and the use of advertising material, visual merchandisers help customers find their way around the sales floor and increase sales. Based on sales promotion and visual briefings, they create allocation plans for the available promotional and seasonal areas. In addition to planning, merchandisers are also responsible for ensuring that the various offer and promotion weeks run smoothly.
Visual merchandising: POS product presentation and visual selling according to current trends
Visual merchandising training provides the specialist knowledge required to present products correctly on sales floors, to pick up on current trends and ideas for the presentation of goods and visual selling for better customer guidance. This important activity at the POS - Point of Sales - includes exterior facades, shop windows, entrance areas, sales areas and service areas. Optimal presentation requires knowledge of presentation forms and rules, lighting effects, creative ideas influenced by new media and current trends. In the dynamic retail trade, the staging at the POS must constantly surprise and arouse the emotions of shoppers. Merchandisers analyze sales figures and the success of previous merchandise presentations in order to increase company sales through their activities.
Some training providers have no prerequisites for participating in visual merchandising training, while others require a completed apprenticeship, two years of professional experience in retail or marketing and a good command of German. Visual merchandisers should ideally have the following skills for good product presentation:
- Enjoy the creative design of sales areas
- Communication skills
- Analytical capability
The course can be attended on a part-time basis and lasts between a few months and six months. Visual marketing or visual merchandising leads to commercial success through effective product images, product visions and shopping experiences. After completing their training, visual merchandisers are able to develop company and brand-specific presentation concepts to complement traditional advertising and marketing strategies.
