Vocational trainer course: What are the main disadvantages?

After the vocational trainer course, you will be able to take over the practical training of apprentices in the training company. You will introduce the apprentices to the company, profession and everyday working life, define learning objectives, accompany, support and encourage the apprentices in their practical work and assess the learning outcomes.

The vocational trainer course - the most important disadvantages are:

  1. The vocational trainer course is not a federal qualification, but it is federally recognized. However, it is mandatory for companies that want to train apprentices. The level of awareness among training companies is correspondingly high. Vocational trainers are sought after accordingly.
  2. There are two different variants with the same name, the difference between which is not always entirely clear. One is a course for vocational trainers in training companies comprising 40 course hours with a federally recognized course certificate. On the other hand, there is a diploma course for vocational trainers in training companies comprising 100 course hours (following the first variant). This leads to a federally recognized diploma for vocational trainers in training companies.
  3. The legal requirements are regulated at cantonal level. In the canton of Schwyz, for example, two years of professional experience is required. Anyone applying for a cantonal training permit must have the required professional experience, a corresponding EFZ (or higher education in the teaching field) and the corresponding diploma.
  4. Those who attend a vocational training course usually complete an industry-neutral variant. This means that you have to deal with the industry-specific features yourself. In some cases, however, there are also industry-specific courses for KV, FaBe, FaGe, MPA, ICT, gastronomy, retail, etc.

 

Graduates complete the practical part of their training in various companies across all sectors. In larger companies, the training is often spread over several people.
